Rutherfurd Stuyvesant, nee Alan Stuyvesant Rutherfurd, collected armor, china, paintings and was a trustee of Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Stuyvesant was the son of Lewis Morris Rutherfurd and it was only by the will of his mother's great uncle Peter Stuyvesant who left him property on condition that he changed his name to Rutherfurd Stuyvesant, which he did in 1863.
Stuyvesant was a member of the University, Racquet and Tennis, Automobile, Century, New York Yacht, Downtown, Seawahaka-Corintian Yacht, and Colony Clubs. He was a member of the National Geographical Society, a patron of the Natural History and National Academy of Design.
