historical notes Lawyer by trade, Hugo Perls was an art dealer, collector, historian and philosopher who operated galleries in Berlin, Paris and New York.

Perls commissioned Mies van der Rohe to build a house in 1910 (Zehlendorf, Berlin), and owned African sculptures and work by, among others, Max Pechtein and Edvard Munch.

Hugo was married three times; first to Kathe Kolker (d. 1945), then Eugenia Soderberg (d. 1973), and finally to Monica Schall.
