Otis collected modern American paintings and Japanese bronzes. The collection included work by, among others, Asher B. Durand, Albert Bierstadt, William P. Babcock, William Page, Homer D. Martin, L. A. Lanthier, John Frederick Kensett, Seymour Joseph Guy, Horace Wolcott Robbins, Worthington Whittredge, Jervis McEntee, Frederick E. Church, William H. Beard, H. Belton Jones, Fedor Encke, Eastman Johnson, Winslow Homer, Elihu Vedder, and J. B. Bristol.

The collection was sold at an auction on Friday December 4-5, 1890, via the Fifth Avenue Art Galleries.
