historical notes Fahim Joseph Kouchakji was an art dealer, collector and archaeologist. He was well known for the discovery of the Antioch Chalice (archaeologist Dr. Gustav Eisen favored it as The Holy Grail) which now resides in the collection of the Cloisters in New York City.

Having arrived in New York City in 1919, naturalized in 1928, Kouchakji married the American journalist Evelyn Curtis, 1905-1980, in Washington, D.C., in 1930.

Works of fine and decorative arts from the Kouchakji collection sold via Sotheby’s, New York , on March 1, and June 1, 1978.
